Bee season is upon us! Quick update on the bee yard: I’d started out with some old wood laminate pieces beneath the hives to keep the weeds down and provide a “stable” surface. Turned out they were really slippery when they got wet. And they got gross as they started to decompose, along with the various pieces of cardboard I scattered around to try to keep weeds down, as well. I forgot to take a good “before” picture, but you can get the idea from this first photo.
Finally got sick of it (and found some time), so I tore everything up,
put down weed-blocking fabric,
then covered the bee yard with pea gravel. Ta da! SO much nicer looking and nicer to work on. I plan to put clover and/or other low-growing ground covers around the edges–when I get around to it.
More exciting updates coming soon!
Thanks! 🙂
Wow! Looks great!
